According to Sexual Strategies Theory mate selection preferences(long and short term) tend to be universal, and if scientist look at anything is to see how they change in countries where women have more rights(if anything the pressure tends to increase). Not much is looked at failing societies (<1.7 kids per woman), and highly unequal societies, a.k.a high gini coefficient. Is it same between poor and wealthy groups of the society? I'm not suggesting that there is something radically different , rather the extent to which these behaviors are important. I want to know when societies began to fail to reproduce what mating strategy do they use.

The status quo is that women look for wealthy man long term, handsome man short term. Man look for younger beautiful females long term, anything will do for short term :).
