About 40 years ago when I was in my twenties, I read a lot of psychology books. I read one book by Erich Fromm on the "Forgotten Language" as it was called. His idea, if I remember correctly is that there is a social unconscious and with that a forgotten language through which the social unconscious is expressed in art, myth, and even in nursery rhythms. I have more recently read a book by a feminist entitled "Kiss Sleeping Beauty Goodbye." It talked about how things are changing in reference to nursery rhythms that are a kind of code that mothers pass on to their daughters. So the nursery rhythms express a meanings that subsist in our society and culture.
