Hi, I would appreciate if anyone can explain or provide a medical term for what I'm experiencing.

I've been woken from a light sleep upon return from the loo in the early morning due to a sudden thought of shape.

This cause me to feel disgusted as I quickly tried to think of something else to get rid of the feeling. I felt irritated/ disgust, perhaps crawl, certainly itchy from head to body and the unpleasant feeling/arousal of back of my brain, both sides.

It started from thoughts of sex and what I wanted to do with my gf sexually when I see her latet I'm the day but that wasn't the problem. Then as I opened my eyes I saw my shirt in bed with a few circle shapes in it that triggered this feelings. I tried putting away the shirt but the thought stayed.

For a bit more context, I began to notice this kind of disgust about 15 years ago. It started with a Madonna video- 4 minutes ft Justin Timberlake. In this video, it had kinda of fleshy jigsaw coming in/out of the upper half of the body. I'm not really a person that get disgusted by fleshy or blood image but there's something unpleasant about that in the video.

I'll be grateful to know what this feeling or condition is called so I can begin to find ways to work on getting over it completely. It freak me out to think it might get worse sand may not be able to control it.

So is it associated with shapes in general or circles? Can't say about the exact medical term but it seems to me the problem is stemming from a psychological basis, perhaps anxiety. Ofcourse, over a period of time, any anxiety can show physiological symptoms too. Have you experienced any trauma in life? Maybe circles/other shapes were part of that incident? then it could be Trypophobia, though rare.

The video you mentioned is a pretty disgusting video to be honest- it trangresses several ethical boundaries, let alone religous ones (the thumbnail preview alone was distasteful enough for me). So I'm not surprised you found part of it to be gross. Perhaps your mind subconsciously realized how bad the video was and associated that feeling with one of the most uncomplicated things it could identify - shapes. Human brain tends to simplify things all the time. It helps to find meaning behind things quickly and accurately.

I believe All psychological issues, big or small, arise from being out of touch with your Ultimate goal in life. Your Purpose for being in this world. Its quite logical really. Think about it..if one had a certain goal in life and knew he had only so much time to achieve it, the obstacles in his path would not bother him, unless he lost sight of the importance of what he was supposed to do in the first place.

Anyways, I pray to the Highest Authority to remove whatever it is that's bothering you, and show you the Ultimate reality, for He is the All-knower, All-wise.
Regards,

@bluecole2 or....
you could just not have to spend a penny ,sleep early and wake up before dawn (when nobody is awake, except The Highest Power Who never sleeps, never rests), and when Its just you and Him, you ask forgiveness for the mistakes you know you've made and for those you don't know you've made, Believe that you will be forgiven By The Highest Authority ( I encourage praying this way because despite possible religious differences, Whosoever is The True Most Powerful Entity, will listen). Afterwards, forgive yourself & resolve to not make those mistakes again.
I Wish you all the best.

I am thankful for your feedback, it's certainly helpful. It isn't necessarily circles, I've noticed it's any shape, particularly rough surfaces with some depth can. I recently bought crunchy peanut butter lately, the rough surface was a trigger. In fact, I now found a lot of things to be trigger lately.

I think I now have something to work with following conversation with my GP who seem more confused than I was, although he mentioned phobia but didn't know which one. I think you are closer with Trypophobia. I certainly found it repulsive looking at it and since been getting symptoms, although I've been having symptoms slightly before that having seen other trigger.

As for trauma, I'm not sure what you'll define as trauma, have been through some difficult experiences in life like most people but I think I came through just fine. Whether or not this is having or contributing to some subconscious effect, I don't know.

Is this a religious site? If so, whats the religion?

It is always a pleasure to be of some service to another person. Afterall, what is a human being without humanity and compassion for his people?

It's a good idea to talk to a medical professional. I can merely try to help while also trying to avoid saying anything that might be harmful rather than beneficial. I do think I'm capable of analyzing situations to some extent. So from what I got over the net, people with trypophobia do find rough surfaces to be unpleasant. Other triggers include the sight of (1)irregular patterns or (2)clusters of small holes or bumps. Do both of these things seem relatable? which one doesn't?

(quoting what you said earlier so I make lesser mistakes and make sure If I understood what you meant) :-

"found a lot of things to be a trigger lately"... so the number of triggers has increased for the same distaste for shapes? you do seem to be quite stressed about the situation, I mean, who wouldn't be if something has been bothering them for 15 years! Could it be that frequent stress causes random things to seem like a trigger? Or maybe those Other triggers aren't random. I don't know all of the triggers so I'm only stating possibilities.

"I certainly found it repulsive looking at it and since been getting symptoms, although I've been having symptoms slightly before that having seen other trigger." I'm sorry but I'm not sure I got what you meant here. Are you referring to the music video you saw once?

"have been through some difficult experiences in life like most people but I think I came through just fine."
By this I'm assuming there's no such big event in your life (accident, loss of loved one etc.) that pervasively bothers you to this day? If so, that is good to hear. We can then strikeout trauma as a possible root-cause.

"Is this a religious site? If so, whats the religion? " Um.. I didn't mention any religious site in either of my posts. However, I was opposing someone else's suggestion regarding a site that says if you donate for so & so cause, your sins will be forgiven. The soul or mind isn't some broken window that you can fix with money. Imagine unintentionally hurting someone's feelings and giving a few bucks to some organization to compensate for that. That's just not how it works. I assume you're familiar with the story of a boy who was told by his dad to drive a nail into the fence for every time he was angry or did a bad thing. I like to think that the fence is analogous to the mind/heart/soul. Every sin is like a long ugly nail driven into the fence. It took effort to engrain the nail so it will take effort to pull it out. If every nail is laboriously pulled out, the holes may remain in the beautiful fence. The holes, being better than ugly nails, are a reminder for us ( as they were for the boy in the story), to fill the gaps with good deeds and to vow to never do anything that would warrant a nail to the fence again.

If you're interested, I would suggest to research about a religion that encourages humanity and shuns all animalistic behaviors. I pray to the Highest Authority to forgive you if you've made any mistakes, and give you peace, for He is the Most benificient, Most Merciful.

Best of Luck.

Thanks was again for your feedback.

"(1)irregular patterns or (2)clusters of small holes or bumps. Do both of these things seem relatable? which one doesn't?"
Yes both does

Could it be that frequent stress causes random things to seem like a trigger? Or maybe those Other triggers aren't random. I don't know all of the triggers so I'm only stating possibilities.
I thing my life is relatively easy, I don't think I stress about anything- certainly not aware of anything at the moment. Perhaps my health and general wellbeing, I've been too lazy and unmotivated to return to working out since December last year and I've also not been getting good quality sleep most of the time.

I'm sorry but I'm not sure I got what you meant here. Are you referring to the music video you saw once?
No I was referring to in images found on Trypophobia. On reading on it, I leant about the seeds in cantaloupe as well, I've always felt unease when I cut one to eat, but never realised that it a thing others experience.

By this I'm assuming there's no such big event in your life (accident, loss of loved one etc.) that pervasively bothers you to this day? If so, that is good to hear. We can then strikeout trauma as a possible root-cause.
That's correct.

Thanks for your prayers and I pray the same for you.
