I like the story of the king who asked his wise men to come up with a saying he could use on virtually all occasions. He was often asked for advice by his subjects, and sometimes he was stumped as to what to say. So they came up with; "And this too shall pass".

When a thought triggers our fight/flight alarm; the most calming thought to think is the thought; " I can choose the thought to calm my alarm". Or; "I can choose a thought to replace the thought that triggered my alarm with a thought that calms my alarm".
