My supplier prefers to throw out the merch instead of negotiating.

Hello, I own a vending machine business and I have come across a strange behavior in one of my suppliers that I would like to understand and get down to science. For some particular reason this person really dislikes when people are negotiating with him to get a better price..so much that he "threatens" the buyer with throwing the product out instead of giving it a discount. I know this sounds very strange and dumb, and honestly it is very unwise business practice on his end..but what exactly is going through his mind that makes him believe that getting rid of the product is a better choice? Is there a psychological explanation for this? I can only come up with this person being so selfish that he himself thinks that he is hurting the buyer when truly he is the one missing out.

I would call it being hard headed, or the old if you dont play by my rules, I will take my ball and go home. There are people who refuse to negotiate because they see negotiation as a weakness. The old saying cut off your nose to spite your face applies here. He would rather no one win than he have to negotiate. He would rather take a loss than reduce his profit. He would rather no one win than negotiate. I hope I have given you enough examples for you to understand where this person is coming from. If you can find another supplier who is willing to negotiate I believe you will be better off, and this person an throw his product out or find someone willing to pay his price...
Regards,
Ivery

Hmm... psychopathy... I recently worked for someone like that from Japan... and these people spend money for whatever criminal activity, but they won't pay you. Org criminals are all the same sheet. Avoid is best.
